For Service Technicians

Pursuant to RSA 438, the Division licenses service technicians authorized to test, calibrate and certify commercial devices including, but not limited to, a variety of scales, analytical balances (e.g. precision scales), retail motor fuel meters, vehicle tank meters, LPG meters, taxi meters. See Agr 1404 and Agr 1405.

**Please be advised that the Division no longer issues hardcopy licenses.**

I. Service Technician Application, Exam Information, Exam Dates & Study Materials

  • Required Application:
  • Requirements to Become a Licensed Service Technician
    • Complete a typed application that is accurate. Applications will not be processed until all requirements are met.
    • Send the completed application via email or to the mailing address of the Division.
    • Upon receipt of the completed application, the Division will notfiy the applicant and/or employer via email of the total amount due for exam and license fees, which depends on scheduled exam date.
    • Send a non-refundable check or money order to the mailing address of the Division with the correct payment amount made payable to "Treasurer, State of NH".
    • Upon receipt of the payment, the Division will notify the applicant and/or employer via email of the reserved examination date and applicable exam information.
  • Exam Dates: (NEW TESTING SITE)

    Applications and payments MUST be received no later than one week before the exam. Testing will take place at our new office, located at the following addres: 1 Granite Place South, Concord, NH, 2nd floor, room 208. All exams will begin promptly at 9:00am. If you are late you will not be allowed to take your scheduled exam.

    • NEW retail motor fuel dispenser training videos are available on the NIST, Office of Weights and Measures web page. Click on "Legal Metrology Devices" and then click on the retail motor fuel dispenser (i.e., gas pump) training video which demonstrates the minimum tests of a retail motor fuel dispenser in accordance with NIST Handbook 44 including: Selecting & Maintaining the Test Standard, Wetting the Standard, Normal & Slow Flow Test, Leveling, Reading the Meniscus, Draining a Test Measure or Prover, and Anti-Drain Test.

III. Service Technician Forms and Guidance Memoranda

Licensed service technicians are required to complete and submit Inspection Report Forms "whenever they for hire, install, service, repair, recondition, test, seal, or calibrate a commercial weighing or measuring device." These forms can be ordered from the Division using the order form below or can be accessed via the online link below.
